discoveryHimalaya will be working in partnership with linkeminded Travel & Trekking agencies, Tour Guides, NGOs and GO for the promotion of Eco-Toursim in the Eastern Himalayas (Eco-Tourism is responsible tourism that seeks to minimize negative impacts, generates economic benefits for participants, provides an ideal visitor experience and is supported by policy frameworks).

Create awareness amongst all concerned about the importance of sound ecopractices in tourism development.

Training and Education:
For healthy growth of Tourism the tourism sector is in need of professional manpower in the form of trained personnel. Trained people especially tour & trek guides, naturalists are in short supply in this sector. Hence conservation awareness in wildlife and environment will be initiated. The training of local nature guides to provide employment opportunities for local youths. Training to the local womenfolk in tourist hospitality, kitchen gardening, food preparation and hygiene to encourage their participation.

Area of Operation:
Eastern Himalayas is a dream travel destination. Towering Himalayas, enchanting countryside, lush green tea gardens, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Monasteries, diverse traditions and culture, people, wildlife and the forests are the main attractions of the region.


Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong are small towns heavily influenced by British India. These towns still carry imprints reminiscent of the Raj era. The missionary schools, tea gardens, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway are the most striking examples of Darjeeling's British influence and past. Kalimpong was once an important business center strategically located at cross roads between Sikkim, Bhutan, Tibet and India. Kurseong "The land of White Orchid" is renowned for its numerous educational institutions and tea gardens.


The Land of Mystic Splendour offers the magical feel of a Himalayan fairy tale land. It is an amazing place of hidden valleys, mystical monasteries, snow fed lakes & rivers and a mountain setting covered with flowers and forests. This former kingdom is home to 3 major population groups - Lepchas, Bhutias and the Nepalese providing a colourful composite of cultures. Mt Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak in the world dominates the landscape and is revered as Sikkim's gaurdian deity. Sikkim is a state of India tucked in the Himalayas across Nepal's eastern frontier. It shares its boundary with Tibet in the north, Bhutan in the east and Darjeeling to the south.

Sikkim Permits - In addition to an Indian visa, foreign travellers must possess an Inner Line Permit issued by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs or Sikkim House (New Delhi), DM's Office, Darjeeling. The permit is valid for 15 days. For visiting interior regions, a Protected Area Permit is obtainable at Gangtok from the Tourism department. Your Tour operator will make necessary arrangements and handle all the official formalities.
